FAQ

Q. How many bedrooms and bathrooms are in the Mansion, and how many are in the Guest House?

A. 10 bedrooms total, between the 2 homes. The Mansion is a 7,000 Square foot, 7-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom home. The Guest House is a 2,000 square foot home with 3 bedrooms, each with a full ensuite bathroom (3 bathrooms). Please note that the 7th bedroom, the “Sea Glass Room” in the Mansion, is a former office turned-bedroom (by frequent guest request). While it is upstairs in a wing with the Tower Top Bedroom, it has no door. Just outside the room is a door that can be closed and locked to the wing itself for privacy. See LAYOUT.
Q. I read there is an apartment inside the mansion. Can you explain?

A. The mansion has a large formal living room and a large kitchen side by side, which creates the heart of the home. There are 5 “wings” that come off of these central gathering spaces. One of the 5 wings is an apartment, which counts for 2 of the home’s 7 bedrooms. When you walk through the door to that wing, you are inside the kitchenette bedroom, which has a kitchenette, laundry, a full bathroom, an exterior door to the patio and a daybed (2 twins, one under the other). This room also has a door which leads you to the Siren bedroom, which has it’s own full bathroom and it’s own exterior door to the patio. It creates an apartment, and often is chosen by those with children, grandparents for extra room and privacy, or a close friend group. See LAYOUT for more info
Q. What are the other “wings” of the mansion?

A.The 5 wings of the home are spaces which house bedrooms or additional rooms, coming off of the main central living room and large kitchen. One is the Master suite wing, which is the master bedroom and it’s 2 full bathrooms. One is the Tower Top bedroom and Sea Glass Bedroom and their shared hallway bathroom. One is the kitchenette room and Siren Bedroom which create an apartment (note there are 2 full bathrooms in this wing). Another is the den and wooden study. The last is above the kitchen, it’s the Sunset Room and Sunrise Room, which each have their own half bathroom and share a connected shower. See LAYOUT

Q. Can I just rent the mansion? Can I just rent the guest house?

A. Yes you can just rent 1 home and not the other. If you rent 1 home, you are at risk for the other home having a potential renter. This has never been a problem and always worked out much better than anyone assumed. There is plenty of parking and each home has its own areas for spending time. The chance of both homes being booked at the same time is high in the high season (June, July). You can ask when booking if the other home is rented for your chosen dates, but I cannot promise you that it will not be by the time your stay occurs. I can only say that September through March, it is more of a chance that a stay will not happen in the other home at the same time, but I cannot guarantee this.
Q. What happens when someone stays in the guest house in a separate booking?

A. We have plenty of parking for guests and 2 entrances to the property, which makes coming and going for big groups easy. Guest house guests have their own lawn surrounding the side and back of their home, as well as their own sitting areas. They are not allowed free range of the property and use of the pool unless you decide to invite them. The grounds around the mansion and beyond, as well as the pool are for mansion guests only.

Q. Is the Mansion or Guest House accessible by wheelchair? Are there any bedrooms on the first floor?

A. The Mansion's Kitchenette room and Siren Room are both on the first floor. The Mansion is accessible with no outside stairs, with the kitchen side door having just a small doorway lip, and the back door having a ramp and small door lip. The front door has a very low 1-inch slate "step" and a doorway lip, both easy to get over via wheelchair, reportedly. The Guest Home is entirely 1 floor with no steps, just a doorway lip.

Q. Do you rent for a discount? Do you rent for longer stays?

A. The rates are often discounted starting in August and going lower and lower through December, and starting to raise again in March, through April and are highest in June/July. I also tend to discount them short notice, if there's a gap from a cancellation. I do offer long stays and they are highly discounted. The Guest House is sometimes booked for 3 months at a time.
Q. Can I rent the guest house to secure full property privacy, even if we do not need to stay inside and have no plans to?

A .Yes. If you wish to rent the guest home but do not plan on using it, it will stay locked and the cleaning fee for the guest house will be removed, and you will also receive 10% off of the nightly rate, lowering the total price. You cannot use the guest house at all, not for extra storage, or any reason.
Q. Can extra beds be set up?
A. Yes for an additional fee of $150/per stay we can set up a twin memory foam bed on a bed frame and for $200/per stay we can set up a queen memory foam on a bed frame. We have several available of each type.

Q. Do you have any additional set-ups for sleeping for children?

A. Yes. We have folding 8 inch memory foam, comfortable floor mattresses which are great for kids under 12. We can have them set up with bedding for $75/per stay. Some are a little larger than others, so do state the age of your kid so we can set up correctly.
Q. What are the closest airports?
A. VPS 30 min, Panama City 50 min, Pensacola 1hr 15 min.

Q. How far away is the nearest beach?

A. 20 minutes away are the white sand beaches of Destin, with a beautiful drive along the bay and over the bay bridge the entire way there and back.

Q. Can I fish on the property?

A. Yes. Be careful crossing the busy road between the home and the bay. There are grass beds out front located at the driveway section. People also throw our crab trap in and catch blue crabs.

Q. Is there a dock?

A. We do not have a dock, but a boat launch/park is conveniently located up the street at Choctaw Beach Park, a minute drive from the home.

Q. Could I bring my boat or RV?

A. Yes, we have a back entrance perfect for pulling those through and plenty of space. We do not have an RV hookup but you are welcome to bring yours.
Q. Is this place child-friendly?
A. We do not recommend this place for large groups of children or children who will not be closely monitored at all times. Children MUST be watched at all times. We have a busy road out front, a bay, a swimming pool, and other potential dangers and hazards. Please contact me for a full report on things to be concerned about as a parent regarding child safety.
Q. Do you take direct bookings outside of Airbnb and VRBO?
A. At this time, we do not take direct bookings unless you are a repeat guest.
Q. What kind of rules do you have?
A. We have a few rules which are for peace of the neighborhood, and safety of all.
-
No unauthorized guests.
-
No events without permission (we don’t always charge an event fee, and if we do they are surprisingly low, you do not have to hide your plan from us)
-
No loud gatherings (music, people talking loudly) outside the home after 8:30pm weeknights and 9:30pm weekends. We cannot make an exception for your special event. We have a 0-tolerance policy for this. Please be sure that this is the right place for your trip or experience.

Q. We are looking for info on having a wedding or other special event at your property. Can you tell us how to do so?
